Marcela García

The Sierra Sur de San Luis Amatlán witnessed Marcela’s birth 47 years ago. At the young age of 8, her mother began to show her a technique that has been passed down from generation to generation embroidery on palm leaves.

For more than 35 years, she has been embroidering on fine palm and rustic palm leaves.  She weaves from small items like cases for glasses and toothbrushes to large tablecloths and bags. Despite having made hundreds of different products over the years, bags are still her favorite when it comes to weaving.

Just like her mother, Marcela carries on with the tradition of transmitting knowledge to other generations: her daughter Melissa (10 years old) already weaves with her and together they accomplish unique crafts that remain in the heart of everyone who receives them.

Marcela’s daughter, Melissa, is proud and excited that her mom’s products will be exhibited in another part of the world, and her dreams to become an experienced artisan grow every day.

Some of the products from Azul Mejicano are made by Marcela’s and Melissa’s hands, and they will be directly supported by your purchase and donations.
